Evaluation of ambisonics encoding with irregular spherical microphone array

We are aiming at establishing a method to obtain highly accurate spherical harmonic expansion series by using irregular spherical microphone array. In this paper, we evaluate the effect of angular displacements of microphones in terms of errors in the spherical harmonic expansion series. Computer simulation showed that computation of the spherical harmonic expansion series up to the 10th order requires at least 120 microphones, which is equivalent to 15-design, and that SNR of 30 dB or better can be achieved with placement errors up to 0.3 rad. |
