Transparent Material Editing for 3D Gaussian Splatting

This paper proposes a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) editing method for transparent materials. To edit models generated by using 3DGS, our method extends 3DGS with Deferred Reflection (3DGS-DR) by modifying the rendering pipeline. Our method calculates normal and depth maps of the object's backside to render transparent materials. To evaluate our method, we synthesize the rendering images of 3D models of known geometries with specular materials, then the rendered images are used as input images of our method. We compare our rendering results of edited 3DGS models with those of known geometries with transparent materials using path tracing as ground truth. While the rendering accuracy of our method slightly decreases compared with 3DGS-DR, we show that the proposed method can edit 3DDGS models to transparent materials and achieves real-time rendering of edited 3DGS models. |
