Proposal of an LOD control model toward anime production

In anime, changes in LOD are considered an important visual expression and are frequently employed. By designing LOD appropriately according to the intended scene direction, it becomes possible to effectively convey depth or emphasize specific objects. Applying this technique can make visual expressions of 3DCG anime more attractive. However, research and discussions on anime stylized control of LOD are still in their early stages. In this study, therefore, we focus on character representation to establish an anime stylized LOD control model. By introducing a virtual distance that incorporates design-related elements and a function that models the relationship between the distance and LOD, we attempt at expressing the exaggeration used in anime. Furthermore, we examine and discuss the effectiveness and challenges through an evaluation experiment. |
