Exploring the Relationship Between Big Five Personality Tendencies and In-Game Behaviors

In recent years, there has been growing interest in the relationship between personality traits and gameplay, but previous research has been biased towards choice-based games and insufficient to capture multiple aspects of player behaviour. In the present study, we analysed the correlation between players' personality traits and in-game behaviour using a home-made RPG with a high degree of freedom. The results confirmed that players with high extroversion tended to spend more time in the casino and less time in town, while players with high cooperativeness actively engaged in NPC battles. This study suggests the possibility of capturing players' natural behavioural tendencies through a highly flexible game design and provides a new perspective for game design and psychological assessment tools. |
