Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have been studying the next generation studio-to-transmitter link / transmitter-to-transmitter link (STL/TTL) for Advanced Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting - Terrestrial (Advanced ISDB-T). In the transition from the current ISDB-T to Advanced ISDB-T, the next generation STL/TTL is required to transmit a new modulator interface (Studio to Transmitter Link Protocol (STLP)) for the Advanced ISDB-T system. Similarly, multiplex transmission of a current modulator interface (broadcast Transport Stream (TS)) and STLP is required from the viewpoint of effective use of frequency. We examined a method of multiplex transmission and verified the feasibility by testing a prototype of next generation STL/TTL system. As a result, we confirmed that both STLP-only transmission and multiplex transmission of STLP and broadcast TS are possible with next generation STL/TTL. In addition, STL/TTL of a wireless microwave line may break with a fixed probability owing to fading caused by natural phenomenon. To improve the reliability of STL/TTL, an STL/TTL system was developed with a combination of wireless microwave line and wired IP line using a forward error correction by selecting the likelihood ratio obtained from both lines. A prototype was built and verified. It was confirmed that the reliability of STL/TTL can be improved by utilizing a combination of wireless microwave line and wired IP line. This lecture reports on the state of development of the next generation STL/TTL, focusing on the above two points.
