Expanding the viewable area of light-field displays using polarization characteristic of liquid crystal displays

A light-field display, which can recreates light ray space using 2D image included light-field data in 3D space, enable to present stereoscopic image in front of the display, but the viewing area is narrow and direction of observation is limited. Therefore, this research proposes a display structure using a reflective polarizer to replace the conventional polarizer in liquid crystal displays, enabling stereoscopic image observation beyond the conventional viewing area and expanding the viewable range of general light-field displays. In this research, 3D image is presented using both direct rays from display and reflected rays by reflective polarizer. |
