Individual identification of cows using sound source localization and object detection for precision livestock farming

Recently, livestock farmers are in need of monitoring technology that enables a small number of keepers to manage a large number of cattle. In this study, we focus on cattle vocalizations and images as information that can be easily collected without capturing cows, and propose a new method of cattle location estimation and individual identification using these vocalizations and images. In this study, multiple microphone arrays and a camera are installed around a barn where cattle are raised, and angular and time stamp of cattle’s mooing are obtained by localizing the sound source, detecting speech segments. Next positional coordinates are calculated by detecting objects of cattle. By combining these information, we can estimate the location of the cattle and identify the cattle. |
