Trial for Investigating Relationship between Older Drivers' Physical Function and Vehicle Control Behavior Using RTK-GNSS

In Japan, with the rapid advance of super-aging society, investigating countermeasures against traffic accidents caused by older drivers has become an urgent issue. Recently, the concept of physical frailty, declining physical function, has garnered attention. On the other hand, there have been few studies on the relationship between physical pre-frailty and driving behavior. In this study, we had older people drive at driving school and measured vehicle maneuver using RTK-GNSS, as well as subjective evaluation by driving instructors. We also assessed physical pre-frailty status using J-CHS criteria and compared measured data between pre-frailty group and robust group. As a result of our analysis, we found that older drivers of pre-frailty group were evaluated lower by instructors and performed unsteady vehicle maneuver than robust group, indicating a higher risk of traffic accident. |
