In order to improve the luminescence properties of Ca2GeO4:Mn5+ as a near-infrared phosphor for biological imaging, the luminescence efficiency was investigated by adding charge compensators, Na, Li, K and Ni. The Ca2GeO4:Mn5+ phosphor powder samples were prepared by a solid-state reaction method. In photoluminescence (PL) measurements under 600 nm excitation, the near-infrared luminescence intensity of Mn⁵⁺ increased with Na, Li, K, and Ni additions, reaching a maximum at x = 0.05 with Na addition. The intensity is about 11 times higher than that of the undoped sample, and the internal quantum efficiency is 16.4%. The analysis of diffuse reflection spectra suggests that the addition of Na, Li, K, and Ni does not promote Mn⁵⁺ activation but suppresses the formation of defects in the host crystal. These results suggest that the charge compensators Na, Li, K, and Ni are effective in improving the luminescence efficiency of Ca2GeO4:Mn5+. |
