Moiré reduction by modification of aperture shape for light-field display using near virtual-image mode

This study proposes a moiré reduction technique by modifying aperture shapes for a light field display using near virtual-image mode. In our previous prototype system, variations in the intensity of virtual images of pixels observed through lenses caused moiré due to differences in pixel shapes between RGB pixels in a liquid crystal display. Aperture shapes used in the light field display were modified from a simple slit shape to a sophisticated one to average out the pixel shape differences, thereby reducing moiré. The modified aperture shape was designed by a computer simulation using diffraction calculations, and we experimentally confirmed that the modified aperture shape reduced the moiré compared to the conventional shape. |
