Study on Digital Twin of River by 3D Modeling for Flow Path Health Assessment

(in English) This study presents a novel approach to develop a river health assessment measure by leveraging a digital twin, developed through the integration of advanced 3D modeling techniques with an existing river experiment setup. The digital twin serves as a virtual counterpart to the physical river model, designed to simulate various environmental conditions, such as different camera types, camera positions, and lighting scenarios. These simulations provide a comprehensive platform for analyzing and optimizing monitoring systems, allowing for accurate evaluation of river flow paths under diverse environmental conditions.

Building on a previous work focused on improving river flow estimation methods, this study proposes a virtual 3D model, facilitating the exploration of multiple flow path scenarios in a controlled digital environment. The integration of this digital twin within a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) enables real-time predictive control and interaction between the physical and virtual environments, significantly enhancing the precision and adaptability of river health assessments.

The proposed method is evaluated using quantitative metrics such as the River Health Index (RHI) and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), comparing flow-path estimates generated by the digital twin against physical river model experiments. The results demonstrate that the digital twin closely aligns with physical observations, providing an effective tool for simulating real world river conditions.
