Application of high-frequency Q-value enhancement technique for the glucose sensor that achieves high sensitivity and high resolution

(in English) To measure human blood glucose levels non-invasively, a glucose sensor that measures changes in the dielectric constant due to differences in glucose solution concentration in a non-invasive, high-frequency manner is being developed. The basic structure of this sensor is the high-frequency LC resonator. When a glucose solution is brought into contact with this sensor, the resonance frequency of the LC resonator changes due to the differences in the dielectric constant of the solution, and this frequency change is detected. However, the solution accompanies a large capacitance and a significant loss component, resulting in a considerable degradation of the resonator's characteristics (Q-value), making it difficult to read the resonance frequency. This paper proposes an analog circuit technique and the structure of a high-frequency glucose sensor that significantly improves the resonator's characteristics (Q-value) by applying positive feedback circuit technique in the measurement range of several GHz to cancel out this loss component. The effectiveness of this sensor was investigated by actually creating a printed circuit board, and the findings are reported here.
