Ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) spatial light modulators capable of high-resolution driving are required to realize dynamic holography with practical viewing-zone angles. FLC in the device requires low-voltage operation with miniaturization of the drive circuit and high-speed operation for field sequential color system. In this study, it was shown that the layered alignment structure of FLC can be corrected by heating and slow cooling treatment under an AC electric field, enabling lower voltages and higher speeds. This is because the direction of spontaneous polarization and the applied electric field are aligned by correcting the layer structure. We have also shown that the method can suppress zigzag orientation defects in FLC and reduce light leakage and in-plane non-uniformity of threshold voltage. |
