This paper presents a new hybrid time of flight (hToF) that combine advantages of direct time of flight (dToF) and indirect time of flight (iToF) for long range measurement under high ambient light condition. The VGA resolution hTOF sensor uses multi-taps pixel and non-overlapping multi-subframes technique to implement multiple time windows. By switching gates opening order in each depth zone, signal components are added while the residual ambient-light offset components due to the tap-to-tap gain deviation are canceled out. An indoor range of 20m and an outdoor range of 10m under 100Klx was successfully obtained while the sensor operation speed is higher than 20fps. The depth noise is 0.6% at 20m for indoor measurement and 1.4% at 10m for outdoor measurement. |
