The authors have been researching on an advancement of mobile relay FPUs (Field Pick-up Units) for use in moving live programs such as road races. By utilizing TDD (Time Division Duplex), we enabled bi-directional transmission of IP (Internet Protocol) signals, which has been difficult with conventional uni-directional FPUs. Aiming to apply it for wireless IP remote production, a multiplexing function was added to the prototype TDD-based FPU system to transmit both a high-bitrate channel for main video signals and a low-latency channel for video and control signals required for remote production. In this report, we conducted a field trial where production equipment in a moving vehicle was controlled using the prototype system. As a result, we confirmed that 4K video signals were transmitted at approximately 100 Mbps over the high-bitrate channel while equipment in the moving vehicle was controlled in real time with a latency of approximately 33 ms over the low-latency channel, demonstrating that IP remote production of moving live programs was possible using the proposed system. |
