Visualization of academic publication data for efficient survey of research fields

Literature survey is an essential task in academic research, which can be time-consuming and challenging. The visualization of literature data can support researchers to explore, discover and understand the underlying relations in the research fields. Therefore, we are developing a researcher-centered approach to facilitate users to discover insights of researchers, topics, and trends of research. To achieve this goal, the presented technique firstly groups topics by applying LDA to abstracts of papers and visualize the topics by HeiankyoView which provides the overview of the research fields. Then, the technique aggregates every publication of each researcher and represents them as concentric circles, where rings encode years of publications, nodes depict papers, and distance reveals strength of co-authorship. |
