Light field displays can provide real emotional expressions in ways that 2D displays hardly do. We previously proposed the flat-panel light field display using the virtual imaging mode. The proposed light field display is suitable for displaying facial images because it has a larger viewing zone than light field displays using lens arrays and provides brighter images than those using aperture arrays. This study proposes a real-time facial communication system that transmits facial feature points with the low data bandwidth and discusses the issues to realize the proposed communication system.
