We propose an display method that can convert between 3D and 2D images over the whole or a part of the display screen by using a specialized lens array consisting of geometric phase lenses. In the proposed method, when parallel light rays with horizontal polarization are incident on the lens array, a point light source array for reproducing integral 3D images are generated on the diffusion plate. On the contrary, when parallel light rays with vertical polarization are incident, diffused light for reproducing 2D images is generated. We prototyped a monochromatic display system and confirmed that it can convert between 3D images with the resolution of 177 × 88 pixels and 2D images with the resolution of 7,680 × 4,320 pixels. |
