Efforts of Hokkaido University to Develop Data Science Human Resources

Hokkaido University was selected as one of six schools for “Strengthening Education on Mathematics and Data Science” with the goal of fostering human resources utilizing data science based on mathematical thinking.
In our university, a mathematical and data science education research center was established in July of 2017, and mathematical and data science education for undergraduates is being implemented. In addition, since 2018, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Projects, the “data scientist development project” to realize a “Super Smart Society” and the “data-related human resource development program (D-DRIVE: Data-Related Innovation Expert),” have been started for master's and doctoral students, respectively. In this paper, we introduce the outline of data science education for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees at Hokkaido University. |
