Development of Sound Localization System based on Daily Conversation

Recently, a smart speaker with voice assistance has received attention as new interactive device intellectualized by internet access. Several smart speakers equipped with multiple microphone can distinguish the main talk by using direction of arrival estimation. These functions of the smart speaker are expected to attract useful applications such as tele-existence interface and monitoring service for social community. However, this device is deficient in the function of range estimation. If the smart speaker can measure the distance between colloquist and microphone, significant advance such as behavior recognition can be generated in the field of monitoring application. Therefore, we propose simple method for measuring the direction and distance of sound source by commercial-released three microphones. As a primary research under the some limitations and minimum configuration, we verified the accuracy of distance measurement from practical conversation. |
