High Precision and High Speed Method to Estimate Unpleasantness Degree of Flickering Images

(in English) The author developed a method that estimates the unpleasantness degree evoked by flickering images, and reported the method three years ago. The method, however, had two problems; that an expensive hardware including several high spec CPUs is necessary to estimate the unpleasantness degree in real time; and that the estimation error becomes large for complex flicker pattern including low frequency high contrast flicker and high frequency low contrast one at the same time. In order to solve the problems, the author devised a new unpleasantness degree estimation method; which calculates the magnitude of brightness quake on the retina likened to the surface of the earth, and converts it to the body sense seismic intensity compensated with the frequency sensitivity. By using the method, the scale of required hardware becomes less than one third of the previous one, and the estimation error for the complex flicker pattern also becomes less than one third of the previous one.
