Quality Improvement of Audio Encoded by MPEG-1 Audio LayerII with High Bitrate

In this work, we propose a method that improves the quality of decoded audio signals by modifying the dynamic bit allocation process when we encode audio signals using MPEG-1/Audio Layer II with high bitrate. In general, the number of bits allocated decreases as we increase the index number of sub-band. However, the maximum number of bits is often allocated to some specific sub-bands and consequently the total number of bits to be allocated cannot be always utilized effectively, when we encode audio signals using the normal encoder with high bitrate. In this work, we modify the algorithm of dynamic bit allocation in the encoder so that the maximum number of bits is never allocated to specific sub-bands. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed method through computer simulation using some music data included in RWC database. |
